What gauges/thickness are the strings in?
All sets and individual strings are Medium unless otherwise specified.
Do you have a ball end/loop end version of a particular string?
Generally whatever is listed on the site is the only version that we have. However, loop end strings can be converted to ball end strings by inserting a ball from a used string into the wire loop. A ball end string can be used on a hook type fine tuner by running the string through the center of the ball to create a loop.
How often should I change strings?
It depends on how much you practice and how important it is for you to sound your best. For violin strings the general consensus is that strings lose their optimal sound quality after approximately 120 hours of playing time. That translates to about 1 month at a rate of 4 hours a day. You can definitely go longer but the sound quality will be diminished. There will be less overtones, slower response, lower volume/brilliance, and when strings get older they go false making them difficult to tune and thus play in tune.
How should I change my strings?
Firstly, never take more than one string off at a time. Before putting the new string on, use a pencil to draw graphite on the bridge groove as well as the nut groove (the two points where the strings make contact) This will ensure that the string does not deteriorate prematurely at those points and/or cause the bridge to pull in different directions when tuning.
